Android TV — and its close relative Google TV — runs on the same underlying Android platform found in millions of phones, which means it inherits genuine flexibility around app installation. Whether you're using an NVIDIA Shield, a Chromecast with Google TV, or an Android TV-based Smart TV, you have three realistic paths to get IPTV running.
Method 1: Google Play Store (recommended for most people)
This is the simplest and most reliable method, and it's what we recommend for almost everyone.

Open the Play Store app
From your device's home screen, launch the Google Play Store.

Search for a player app
Look for a well-reviewed IPTV player app, such as "IPTV Smarters Pro".

Install and sign in
Download the app, open it, and enter the login details from your welcome email.

Play Store apps update themselves in the background, so you don't need to manage this manually.
Method 2: Sideloading via a file manager app
If a specific player app you want isn't listed on the Play Store in your region, you can sideload the APK directly — similar to the Firestick process, but using a file manager instead of Downloader.

Enable unknown sources
Go to Settings > Apps > Special app access > Install unknown apps, and allow it for your browser or file manager.

Open your device's browser, navigate to the direct APK link provided by support, and download it.

Method 3: ADB install (advanced users)
Android Debug Bridge (ADB) lets you push an APK to your Android TV device from a computer on the same network. This is mainly useful for devices with a clunky on-screen keyboard, or for installing multiple apps quickly.
- Enable Developer Options on your Android TV (Settings > About > click Build number 7 times)
- Turn on "USB debugging" or "Network debugging" inside Developer Options
- Install ADB tools on your computer and connect using your TV's local IP address
- Run adb install <filename>.apk from your computer to push the app directly
ADB is optional
Unless you're comfortable with command-line tools, Method 1 or 2 will get you the same result with far less complexity. Save ADB for situations where typing credentials with a remote becomes genuinely painful.
Device-specific notes
- NVIDIA Shield: excellent performance for 4K streams thanks to its dedicated hardware decoder
- Chromecast with Google TV: works well but has less internal storage, so avoid installing too many large apps
- Android TV-based Smart TVs (Sony, TCL, Hisense): performance varies more by model year than by brand
